A Lyric A Day...

...not to be confused with tantric sex. Unless you've got a while.

U2- One Tree Hill

We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill
As the day begs the night for mercy, love.

A sun so bright it leaves no shadows
Only scars carved into stone on the face of earth.

The moon is up and over One Tree Hill
We see the sun go down in your eyes.

You run like a river on to the sea
You run like a river runs to the sea.

And in the world, a heart of darkness, a fire-zone
Where poets speak their heart then bleed for it

Jara sang, his song a weapon in the hands of love.
You know his blood still cries from the ground.

It runs like a river runs to the sea.
It runs like a river to the sea.

I don't believe in painted roses or bleeding hearts
While bullets rape the night of the merciful.

I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky
And the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill.

We run like a river runs to the sea
We run like a river to the sea.

And when it's rainin', rainin' hard
That's when the rain will break a heart.

I love it so much you can have the whole song :) Happy Halloween!

Barenaked Ladies - Straw Hat And Old Dirty Hank

I tend the wheat field that makes your bread
I bind the sweet veal, pluck the hens that make your bed
Mother Nature & Mother Earth
Are two of three women who dictate what I'm worth

I don't know...I've just always liked this. Especially the live version on the Rock Spectacle album.

Jason Mraz - Absolutely Zero

Hey what's that you say? You're not blaming me for anything well that's great
But I don't break that easy. Does it fade away?
So that's why I'm, I'm apologizing now for telling you I thought that we could make it
I just don't get enough to believe that we've both changed.

See who am I to say this situation isn't great? It's my time to make the most of it
Of course I didn't know that it would happen to me. Not that easy.
If all along the fault is up for grabs why can't you have it
If it's for sale what is your offer, I'll sell it for no less than what I bought it for
Pay no more than absolutely zero.

....sometimes, things just don't work out like you'd hoped.

Pink Floyd - Brain Damage

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

Ok....an easy one :)

Rage Against The Machine - Settle For Nothing

Just a quick, happy message from your friends Rage Against the Machine:

If we don't take action now
We'll settle for nothing later
We settle for nothing now
And we'll settle for nothing later

See you all November 2!

The Beatles - I'm So Tired

I'm so tired, I haven't slept a wink
I'm so tired, my mind is on the blink

Yes, it's true....I saved this one for my latest "all nighter". Why an all-nighter on a Wednesday night/Thursday afternoon, you ask? Well......I've been *very* sluggish lately, and have procrastinated like a mofo. And I've been going to bed later and later...lately it's been roughly 5:00 AM. So, last night, I decided to stay up all night, attempting to catch up on work. I got far...but I'm also running on fumes now. The only thing between my head and the pillow is this beautiful 16 oz. Sobe NoFear energy drink. It's almost like a taste of heavennnnnnn..........zz.zzzzzzzzzzz....zzzzzzzz.z......zzz........

(PS - Sorry for neglecting the lyrics!)

Bruce Springsteen - Backstreets

Remember all the movies, Terry, we'd go see
Trying to learn to walk like the heroes we thought we had to be
And after all this time, to find we're just like all the rest
Stranded in the park and forced to confess
To hiding on the backstreets
Hiding on the backstreets
Where we swore forever friends
On the backstreets until the end

So yeah, I almost forgot to put one in today...so I'll give you one of the better ones. The Boss...yeah. He's really something else. Always one to sing about real life, but also raw emotion...

Peter Gabriel - Darkness

i'm scared of swimming in the sea
dark shapes moving under me
every fear i swallow makes me small
inconsequential things occur
alarms are triggered
memories stir

it's not the way it has to be

i'm afraid of what i do not know
i hate being undermined
i'm afraid i can be devil man
and i'm scared to be divine
don't mess with me my fuse is short
beneath this skin these fragments caught

when i allow it to be
there's no control over me
i have my fears
but they do not have me

I love Peter Gabriel...his lyrics are generally so thoughtful, and his music is, to me, smart. His disc, "Passion", is the soundrack to "The Last Temptation of Christ"...it's amazing. It's all instrumental, with Middle Eastern and African voices added. It's something to behold, really.

Plus, "Sledgehammer" kicks ass :)

David Bowie - Heroes

You know...there's a list of rather popular musicians/bands that I really don't care for. The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, etc...now...some of their music is fantastic, and (especially in the case of Dylan) a lot of their music is at the very least very heartfelt. I can definitely appreciate heartfelt. For some reason or another, though, I just don't like listening to it. In Dylan's case...I'm not a big fan of his vocals. At all. I listen to it when I can, but that usually lasts no more than 3 sings in a row. Anyways, my point is, these people really do have some terrific songs/lyrics, and just because they're not my cup of tea, that doesn't mean I'm going to shun them. Case in point:
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be Heroes, just for one day

Madonna - Material Girl

Just for fun (and because Luke mentioned Madonna in a comment a few days ago)...
'cause we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues

Well I know I had it coming,
I know I can't be free
but those people keep a movin'
and that's what tortures me...

In the context of the song, the singer is in prison, and he's referring to people in a train that's going by outside. That should help if you've never heard the song.

Bob Dylan - Make You Feel My Love

When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

There's not much for me to say here...I'm just glad it dawned on me to look for this song. What a nice way to start the week!

U2 - Numb

One thing I probably should have clarified when I started....don't expect updates during the weekends :)

However, since I'm here, here's one of my favorites...so simple, yet utterly profound:

Don't expect. Suggest.

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Foo Fighters - Burn Away

Will you still remember
There behind the skies
Walking on the embers
Standing in their light

The hardest part is knowing
Everything must die
The hardest part is waiting here
Ready to collide

....will you remember, when it's gone?
