A Lyric A Day...

...not to be confused with tantric sex. Unless you've got a while.

Dispatch - Out Loud

This is what's currently stuck in my head...

would you be the wind to blow me home
would you be a dream
on the wings of a poem
and if you were walking through a crowd
you know I'd be proud

if you call my name out loud
do you suppose that I would come running
do you suppose I'd come at all
I suppose I would

The Bee Gees - I Started A Joke

OK...yeah....The Bee Gees. I'll admit that I've never heard the Bee Gee's version of this song. I'm more familiar with the Wallflowers' version of it. I was watching Zoolander the other day, and at the beginning, right after he loses the award to Hansel (Hansel...so hot right now...Hansel), he's sitting in a puddle outside on the street and they start playing this fantastic Wallflowers song. Well...a couple googles (eugoogoly?) later, I now know that it's *gasp* originally done by the Bee Gees.

I started a joke, which started the whole world crying,
But I didn’t see that the joke was on me.

I started to cry, which started the whole world laughing,
Oh, if I’d only seen that the joke was on me.

I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I’d said.

Til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
Oh, if I’d only seen that the joke was on me.

I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I’d said.

’til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
Oh, if I’d only seen that the joke was one me."

Incubus - Southern Girl

Frankfort, KY...wish I was there right about now....

You're an exception to the rule
You're a bonafide rarity
You're all I ever wanted
Southern girl
Could you want me?

So come outside and walk with me
We'll try each other on to see if we fit
And with our roots, become a tree
To shade what we make, under it

Ben Folds - Not The Same

OK, Becky definitely gets the credit for making me think of a Ben Folds song. I think this is probably my favorite song of his. It's a true story about a guy that takes some acid at a party, then while he's tripping has some revelation and becomes a born-again Christian. If you've never heard it, or just don't listen to Ben Folds, I can guarantee you that this song is worth your time. One fun note about it...the first time I heard this song was on a friend's "Ben Folds Live" DVD. This song features a chorus in the background, kind of doing a 3 part "ah" deal (as if you have any idea what I'm talking about). Since he didn't have a chorus with him when they made the DVD, he had the audience split up and do it. Very cool :)

you took a trip
and climbed a tree
at Robert Sledge's party
and there you stayed
'til morning came
you were not the same after that

you gave your life
to Jesus Christ
and after all your friends went home
you came down,
you looked around
and you were not the same after that

Have a good weekend!

Jack Johnson - Gone

Do you ever feel like everything you own is just filler? I was sitting around last night (after I woke up at 2 am), staring at my racks and racks of CDs, DVDs, and video games, thinking that they're all pretty worthless. However, when I thought about getting rid of them, that made even less sense. Slaves! We're all slaaaaves to the marketing machine!

(and yes, Soylent Green is people. I know.)

Look at all those fancy clothes,
But these could keep us warm just like those.
And what about your soul? Is it cold?
Is it straight from the mold, and ready to be sold?

And cars and phones and diamond rings,
Bling, bling, because those are only removable things.
And what about your mind? Does it shine?
Are there things that concern you, more than your time?

Martin Sexton - Can't Stop Thinking 'Bout You

Thanks to Dan Hawthorne for introducing me to this guy. Faaantastic.

Lovin you was sort of like lovin a fifth of the finest bourbon
Was it your quantity or high quality that's put me in the shape I'm in

Now I'm tired and I'm scared and wide open to the rest of my life
And I almost had it all
I'm fooling myself by thinking
That a cure will be found
Cause I can't stop thinking bout you

George Harrison - Got My Mind Set on You

Thanks, Frema :) I was going to go with the sublime "Something", as I believe that's George's best song, but....that song's been slightly tainted for me. This song will do just fine.

But it’s gonna take money
A whole lotta spending money
It’s gonne take plenty of money
To do it right child

It’s gonna take time
A whole lot of precious time
It’s gonna take patience and time, ummm
To do it, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it,
To do it right child

I got my mind set on you
